Philosophy:
Yoga is a potent and powerful tool to bring us into the present moment and re-unite us with our body, our inner knowing and our true natures. Our suffering is a result of our disconnection or misunderstanding about who we are, or a misunderstanding about the nature of life and change. The full potential and promise of yoga and a yoga lifestyle is 'moksha', freedom from suffering. Through a dedicated practice, we can re-discover the wonder and beauty already present inside and around us; our appreciation deepens. The inner connection we establish enables more authentic connection with others and with life, giving us a greater capacity and inclination to care for life. The world needs more people who are compassionate toward themselves and toward all living beings. This is the first limb of yoga - ahimsa! I love being a part of this process, and it is my joy to help foster this deeper connection & harmony. There are so many benefits to all aspects of the practice of yoga, and I am honoured to share them to the best of my ability and knowledge. I am indebted to my beloved teachers and guides who continue to reveal the potential and promise yoga offers.
What you can expect in my classes:
You will be encouraged to approach your practice with non-judgmental openness & curiosity, loving acceptance, and respect for the conditions of the moment. Breath awareness and mindfulness of sensation in the body throughout our practice, whether a gentle restorative class, or a more active flow class, ensures that we practice safely and will reap the many physical, mental & emotional benefits. In class I often offer inspiration through readings, poetry or specific themes, yet leave space for you to be with your own experience. My role as a teacher is to facilitate your journey back to yourself.
"Practicing yoga helps us slow down, to come into a more natural pace, to notice and pay attention to what is here. We become more fully aware and present. We begin to notice our breath, and through it, our connection with life, as life. We begin to inhabit our bodies more fully, so that we are aware of what we need - what is good for us, and not so good for us. Yoga - the physical practices, breathing techniques, and philosophy & lifestyle - offers us a way "home" and a way to free ourselves from suffering. Pain can't always be avoided, but it can be met with more ease. I am dedicated to assisting you on this joyous journey home to your Self. And I know that if you are willing to practice, it will transform your life."
