ALETHEIA BREATH SESSIONS
"Turn the Key & Enter "
...Sometimes, when life squeezes you into lonely crevices, you may have to decide between survival and breaking apart. The banished self from an earlier time of life remains within you waiting to be released and integrated. The soul has its own logic of loyalty and concealment. Ironically, it is usually in the most awkward rooms that the special blessings and healing are locked away."
~ John O'Donohue
"Aletheia" is a Greek word, meaning "truth" or "disclosure": “the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident.”
"Breathwork" as described here is different from the type of yogic breathing that one may experience in a yoga class. Although technically, when we manipulate the breath, it is a form of pranayama - in this therapeutic context, the goal is to harness the healing power of the breath to release accumulated or unintegrated emotion and enable access to a more expanded, or "non-ordinary" state of consciousness, deeper than the analytic or linear mind, beyond "ego' or the sense of a 'separate self". Humans have gathered together to drum, to dance, to breathe & sing for thousands of years. These activities provide a way to let go, to come back to awareness of our inter-connectedness with each other, to release accumulated tension and stress, and find healing and integration. The goal of Aletheia Breathwork is to empower us to access our unique inner healer. By surrendering to the breath, which is our access to life force energy, there is a movement toward wholeness that happens through our being, rather than through doing.
Aletheia Breathwork is both a gentle and profound alternative healing modality that utilizes a technique of conscious, connected breathing in an intentional way. You will be instructed in a specific method of conscious connected breath which can allow undigested or unintegrated emotions to be met, felt, expressed and integrated. This may happen through a purely 'sensational" experience (feeling sensations of warmth, coolness, tingling in the body, for example), through vocal release (toning, crying, laughter), through insights and experiences of 'oneness'. As your facilitator, I hold space for you to undertake this process in your own unique way. Each person, and each practice of breathwork is unique. You may feel joy or sadness, bliss or union, or all of the above. Either blissful or difficult feelings may arise to be processed. Our willingness to open to whatever arises for us and remain dedicated to the technique of breath allow the self to embody greater wholeness.
A music playlist is crafted for the sessions, which may be evocative, gentle acupressure-like touch is offered to bring attention to areas of holding, and positive affirmations will be utilized. An individual and sometimes the whole group may be encouraged to "tone" to help open the breath and release energy.
It is common after a breathwork session for participants to feel lighter, more relaxed and present, freer to express themselves and more able to access the well of creativity, joy & love that is the essence of our true nature.
Individual and group work greatly compliment each other. The energy of the group can be very supportive and enlivening. Individual work allows for more individualized attention. In considering whether to join a group Breathwork session, or an individual session, please be aware that the room can at times be noisy in group sessions, as people may be verbally expressing emotion. This can be freeing, as often people feel freer to express and release with others sharing the experience, and it can also be activating or triggering. In a group session, music is generally played at a moderately loud volume to allow greater freedom of expression. In an individual session this can be modified according to preference.
The group work is done in a safe, confidential and intentional environment and utilizes the power of the group to effect deep, personal change. The individual work is ideal in deepening personal awareness, identifying core patterns and anchoring an open, healthy breath in the body over the long term. Ideally, both approaches are used to fully incorporate the power of this amazing tool, which can transform our lives and our relationship to the outside world.
As we become familiar with the process over the course of a session, and increasingly, through repeated sessions, we are able to relax and trust the process more, releasing deeper emotional and mental beliefs and patterns.
As the word "Aletheia" reveals, we aren't creating a better version of ourselves, but releasing what obscures who we really are. Our creativity, energy, and enthusiasm may be subdued as a result of accumulated negative energy and emotion. In our willingness to trust our breath and the life-force energy, there is the potential of release from what no longer serves us.
Please feel free to contact Cedar if you have any questions, or would like to talk about whether starting with a group or individual session is best for you.
A Conscious, Connected Breathing practice tends to:
